- Unemployment has fallen slightly and job vacancies risen to their highest level during the pandemic, according to data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
- Inflation has doubled, with CPI rising by 1.5% in the twelve months to April (up from 0.7% in March). The Consumer Prices index (CPIH) rose by 1.6% – up from 1.0% in March.
Francis O’Grady said:
“Working people need security, but millions are still furloughed, and many others have lost their job.
“Despite the rise, inflation is below target and we are a long way from giving workers security with a fast and full recovery. The government must continue with the interventions needed to achieve this.
“Much greater investment is still needed to regenerate the economy with green industry, and to level up with decent jobs across every part of the UK.”
