Covid and live events – lockdowns may not be over yet

… and in direct contradiction of the previous post here, the live events industry was very pleased to hear that Spanish studies had shown that live events could happen without a significantly increased risk of Covid transmission, but times may have changed with the current very high levels of transmission that are being masked by the high levels of vaccinations.

The BBC is reporting Prof Ravindra Gupta, a member of the New and Emerging Respiratory Virus Threats Advisory Group, saying that

“…when the government carried out pilot music events earlier this year, the Delta variant was not dominant and community transmission was relatively low…..”

Those pilot events were concluded to lead to “no substantial outbreaks” – but Prof Gupta says if a study were to be carried out now, “you may find something different.”

We may not have seen the last of lockdown measures yet…
